The West Virginia Health Improvemen Institute has a proven track record of developing and implementing projects and initiatives to advance health innovation and improvement. These have included:

West Virginia Regional HIT Extension Center - WVRHITEC

Established in April 2010, the WVRHITEC is one of 62 non-profit organizations across the nation awarded federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) dollars to support the development of regional extension centers (RECs), which are aiding West Virginia health centers and more than 1,000 medical professionals as they work to implement and use certified health information technology and achieve health improvement outcomes through “meaningful use.” Click to learn more.

Medicaid Transformation Grants

In early 2007, the West Virginia Bureau for Medical Services was awarded five grants from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under its Medicaid Transformation Program. These grants addressed various aspects of the state’s Medicaid Redesign initiative, including adoption of a medical home model of care delivery, promotion of health information technology as a facilitator for health system improvement, and the concept of a Health Improvement Institute as a means of convening stakeholders around common goals for improving the health of the people of West Virginia. The West Virginia Health Improvement Institute was initially born as a product of these Transformation Grants and worked to help facilitate successfuil accomplishment of many of the grants’ projects.
